Thoughts from a mom on the other side

Hands down, being a mom has been the best part of my life. I remember crying the night before I gave birth to my oldest son, wailing that I was in no way prepared to be a mom. I mean, it took me three times to pass my driver’s license test. Shouldn’t the requirements for having a kid be a little more strict?

I’m a far from perfect parent who has been lucky to be surrounded by people willing to shepherd me through the process. My oldest just graduated high school, I have another who is a senior, and then a sophomore behind him. I’m on the “other side” of the active parenting role. Below are ten things I learned along the way.

Were they really this small?

Cherish the times you are your child’s favorite toy. We had just had our third child when we heard a sermon on Father’s Day that would stick with us for years to come. Having three kids under four was no small challenge. Make that three active BOYS and the challenge takes on a life of its own. As most parents of young children know, it can be exhausting. You get up and barely take care of your own necessities before being thrown into the drudgery of multiple diaper changes, sippy cup/bottle assembly, finding outfits that don’t…
